About Bukidnon
Bukidnon is derived from the word “bukid,” which means “mountain” or “hill,” and is the famed “Fruit and Vegetable Basket of Mindanao,” as a drive to the province’s roadways provides magnificent vistas of the rich undulating mountains and enormous fields of corn, rice, pineapple, and many other agricultural products. Most of the year, the province has a chilly climate, especially at night, with temperatures ranging from 22-10° Celsius from December to February. The cool climate allows for the slower ripening of crops, giving an unrivaled flavor to its fruits and vegetables. It is a popular tourist destination in the summer.
The mountain ranges, namely Mt. Kimangkil Range, Pantaron Range, Mt. Tangkulan Range, Mt. Tago Range, Mt. Kalatungan Range Natural Park, and Mt. Kitanglad Range Natural Park, are where you can find luxuriant tropical rainforests. These ranges host several watersheds that are vital for ecological and economic balance. Mt. Kitanglad is one of the 7 ASEAN Heritage Parks in the country and towers at 2,938 meters. These ranges are also the habitat of critically endangered, economically important, and endemic fauna like the Bukidnon Woodcock, the endangered Philippine Eagle, and flora such as the Rafflesia, known as the world’s giant flower. Bukidnon is not only rich in natural wonders but also in culture, as it is home to the seven tribes of Bukidnon: Manobo, Talaandig, Higaonon, Bukidnon, Matigsalug, Umayamnon, and Tigwahanon.
how to get to bukidnon
Bukidnon does not have its own commercial airport. The nearest major airports are:
- Laguindingan Airport (Cagayan de Oro): Approximately 1–2 hours’ drive to northern Bukidnon and 3–4 hours to Malaybalay City.
- Davao International Airport: Located about 3–5 hours from Bukidnon’s southern towns
From these airports, you can take a bus or van to your specific destination within Bukidnon.
From Cagayan de Oro City:
- Bus: Buses from the Agora Bus Terminal reach Bukidnon in 1–4 hours, depending on your destination.
- Vans and Private Vehicles: Offer faster and more flexible travel options.
From Davao City:
- Bus: Buses from the Ecoland Integrated Bus Terminal take 3–5 hours to reach Bukidnon.
- Private Vehicles: Provide a more convenient and quicker option.
Local Transportation within Bukidnon:
- Jeepneys: Affordable and widely used for town-to-town travel.
- Habal-Habal (Motorcycle Taxis): Ideal for reaching remote spots and attractions
- Vans: Offer faster connections between cities and towns.
Since Bukidnon is landlocked, sea transportation is not available directly to the province. However, you can take a ferry to Cagayan de Oro Port, which is approximately 104 kilometers away from Bukidnon. From there, you can proceed by land to your destination within Bukidnon.

COMMUNAL RANCH
The Impasug-ong Communal Ranch, a 642-hectare ranch, is dubbed the “Cinema Capital” of Bukidnon, as notable Philippine mainstream films have made it their main shooting location due to its picturesque landscapes and seemingly endless lush mountains and trails.
The route to the Communal Ranch is best suited for 4WD cars and motorcyclists, so buckle up for a bumpy ride. Once there, your eyes will be lured to the enormous expanse of grassland and the breathtaking vista of the towering mountain ranges.

BINAKI
One of the many must-eat experiences in Bukidnon is their famous Binaki steamed corn. Every bite walks you through the heavenly mix of corn, milk, butter, baking powder, and sugar, all wrapped in corn husks and steamed to perfection, orchestrating into one of the best corn cakes you will ever have the pleasure of eating, made uniquely in the ever-bountiful Fruit and Vegetable Basket of Mindanao. While binaki is available in many stores throughout Bukidnon, it is most easily found in Malaybalay City’s Aglayan Public Market.
