This century-old Spanish Catholic Church of Jimenez, also known as St. John the Baptist Church, is one of the Philippines’ oldest churches, located in the historic town of Jimenez, Misamis Occidental. This beautiful Baroque-style church has been declared a National Historical Treasure and has withstood the test of time for almost 140 years.
The old church altar, the pipe organ, the antique clock, and the unique church interiors have been well-preserved throughout the years, thanks to the joint effort of the local government and church officials. The fascinating paintings on the church’s ceiling, made by Spanish painters in the late 19th century, are a must-see for all visitors.
HOW TO GET THERE:
The jump-off point is at the Jimenez Integrated Bus and Jeepney Terminal. From there, one will find local transportation. Just inform the driver to drop you off at St. John the Baptist Church.
