GUI-OB CHURCH
📍Catarman, Camiguin
The Old Gui-ob Church, known as Cotta Bato, is a precious remnant from 19th-century Camiguin. Recognized as a national cultural treasure, this church was constructed in 1623 as the Parish Church of San Roque, crafted with corals and stones. Although partially engulfed by lava during the eventful eruption of Mt. Vulcan in 1871, the moss-covered convent and belfry still stand proudly, serving as enduring symbols that celebrate the history and heritage of this beautiful island. Exploring these ruins offers a unique Camiguin experience, allowing you to appreciate not only the island’s natural wonders but also the essence of its people and society.
HOW TO GET THERE
The Ruins of San Roque Church is located in Barangay Bonbon, Catarman, approximately 520 meters from the entrance to the Sunken Cemetery site. The place is easily identified upon arrival since it is fenced with steel and concrete for preservation and protection.
